Yes, I have collected yet another sparkling jewel to add to my necklace of life. It’s growing longer and more beautiful with every passing year.
I can never understand why people get upset with age. To me it’s another year of life’s internship completed, making us that much more valuable to this magnificent “company” we are all part of called the human race. We have another year of wisdom secured under belts and another year’s worth of experiences to refer back to.
“Mommy?? We’re going to Chuck E. Cheese’s for your birthday, too, right Mommy, right?” my youngest has been asking ever since the ride home from her last birthday party there.
I’m almost ready to say “yes”, at this point – it seems easier than explaining why NOT twenty times a day.
“Are you gonna have a Barney cake?” she asks.
“No, silly,” her wise six-year old sister laughs at her, “she’s gonna have a princess cake,” she punctuated her response with a firm confirmation nod.
“Actually…” I tried to be delicate as I broke the news that I was kinda in the mood for a cheesecake.
“No ice cream?” my eight year old asked in disappointment.
“And no Chuck E. Cheese,” pouted my littlest.
Sigh….they were twisting my arm. Looks like ice cream for lunch today…(hehehe)
Bob, my coffeemaker is being especially nice to me this morning, every cup he has produced for me is just better and better.
“I’m telling you, Vicky, THIS is your year,” Randi said when she Skyped to wish me a happy birthday, “you know how everyone has that ‘one perfect year’ in their life?”
She refilled her own coffee cup from “Johnson”, her coffeemaker, before continuing. I am noticing the fluffy pink slippers I bought for her have all the look of Cliff’s personal play toys.
“Once in everyone’s life, you have that ‘one perfect year’. The one where everything goes right, nothing goes wrong,”
“Trust me…” she told me just as the doorbell rang.
(To Be Continued….)
